The value of cow brush in captivity

• The head-butt rate in the brush group was 1.3% lower than no-brush group(P=0.013).The frequency and duration of brush use in cattle varied over time, after reaching the peak, the rate of change was less than 1% (P < 0.01).
• The captive environment had significant effects on kicking,crotch climbing,guardrail licking,tongue rolling, comb licking and activity level,which was 5% lower than that of the group without cattle brush.(P<0.05).Crotch climbing frequency,guardrail licking frequency, guardrail licking time, activity time and rumination duration decreased with time,while tongue rolling and grooming frequency and duration increased with time. 0.1% reduction in time spent lying down (p = 0.001).
• Cattle show less sluggish and aggressive behavior after using the brush, and cattle are able to become accustomed to using the brush, indicating that the brush can provide lasting benefits for cattle.
